Future of Plant Operator job

As Air Liquide’s industrial plants are constantly modernizing, the initial know-how of the plant operators is less and less demanded. As a result of our study, we have given a vision where they turn into gas traders.

In this context, the plant operator can be relocated to remotely operate a plant to optimize its performance. Losing the knowledge of the place, we demonstrated that it was possible to reappropriate this knowledge thanks to augmented reality.

This vision shared in 2013 was expressed in 2016 by the inauguration of the first pilot station of Air Liquide in Lyon. This center, called Connect, brings together 30 controllers that drive 20 plants remotely, as well as the assistance of in situ interventions thanks to connected goggles.
